Baumann, the world’s largest sideloader manufacturer, has appointed dealer, Cervus Equipment, as official distributors in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The appointment is the first of its kind in Canada.
A world-leading equipment dealer, powered by iconic brands including John Deere, Peterbilt, Sellick, Clark, Doosan and JLG, and unrivalled technical and customer support, Cervus has 62 locations in three countries and revenues in excess of one billion Canadian dollars. The company also supplies extensive storage and racking solutions via its forklifts division, complementing a breadth of products and services to support its customers.
The size of the Canadian sideloader market remains relatively modest yet the ability of sideloader equipment to carry long loads over greater distances has led to a growing number of enquiries amongst Canadian lumber, metals and extrusions businesses.
President of Baumann Sideloaders, Jason Reynolds, believes Cervus is the perfect business to support the sideloader manufacturer. Said Jason: “We value long-term partnerships and believe our customers are best served by committed distributors that understand the products and mechanics well. We have found that in Cervus, who have a great track record and an excellent customer base. It’s rare to find a business so dedicated to providing the right solution whatever the equipment, and Cervus stands out as a first class operation.”
Cervus Equipment’s Vice President of Operations, Transportation and Industrial, Fred Hnatiw, says the Baumann dealership fits in well with the company’s long-term mission.
Said Fred: “We are very excited to be able to offer the Baumann range to our customers. For us, equipment is only part of the story, but offering world-class products is in our DNA. Integrity, hard work and the way we care for our people, customers and partners is crucial for growth and maintaining our reputation as a well-respected operation. The Baumann emphasis on support, reliability, product innovation and long-term relationships give us a great foundation from which to build.”
Demonstration equipment is already in production for delivery to Cervus, whilst customers will also have an opportunity to discuss the latest Baumann models at Western Retail Lumber Association show at the BMO Center, Calgary, in January.
Mark Milligan, General Manager, Materials Handling of Cervus Equipment believes customers will benefit from the combination of excellent service and another market-leading product. Said Mark: “By handling long loads lengthways on a load bed, sideloader customers typically find major advantages in terms of productivity, access through doorways and space utilisation. Recently, increasing concerns over load safety, fork truck stability and the awareness of pedestrians has led to a resurgence in demand for equipment from the market leader.”
With some customers around the world choosing Baumann products for over 40 years, the company places great store by its product quality and reliability, and continues to innovate and develop its range for overseas markets.
Following two years of trials and six months of rigorous testing, a new panoramic cabin has been introduced to many 2018 Baumann sideloaders, with the redesign providing a strengthened framework, simplified access and the removal of central side struts.
“Our previous cab improved visibility to the front corners but our continuous development ethos meant we still aimed to improve,” says Jason Reynolds. “The continuous glass side panel on the new cabin now means the driver’s view has been significantly improved from both sides. Access is more open and the response from operators and owners has been superb.”
Changes in materials and advances in toughened glass also allowed the Italian sideloader manufacturer to reconfigure the panoramic glass panel on the new cabin. An extremely thorough testing process requires major structural improvements, such as new cabins to be tested to destruction, with the results held in storage for at least a decade.
Baumann has been at the forefront of developing AC electric powered sideloaders, offering very low maintenance and operating costs, together with a load-levelling system that enables the machine deck, load bed and forks to remain perfectly level at all times, even on rough terrain or slopes.
The company also won the Fork Lift Truck Association award for Innovation, for its Archimedes screw outreach system, one of the most significant developments in sideloader design in 40 years.
The Baumann GX Series utilizes the direct drive Archimedes screw and sliding blocks, to extend the fork carriage, whilst preventing transverse movements and eliminating unnecessary stresses. The system means greater sensitivity and consistent control, and the maximum working speeds – results never before reached.
